Upon your arrival at the Cochin (Kochi) Airport or Railway Station, our representative will warmly welcome you. From there, embark on a scenic 4-hour drive up into the Western Ghats towards Munnar. Along the way, enjoy beautiful views of the cascading Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls, as well as the sprawling spice plantations. Upon reaching Munnar, check into your premium hill resort, breathe in the crisp, tea-scented mountain air, and spend the rest of the evening relaxing at your leisure.
After a hearty breakfast, head out for a full day of sightseeing in the misty highlands of Munnar. Start with a visit to Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and lush green rolling hills. Next, visit the picturesque Mattupetty Dam, where you can opt for a scenic boat ride, followed by a stop at the famous Echo Point. In the afternoon, wander through the manicured tea estates and visit the Tea Museum to learn about the region’s rich tea-making heritage. Return to your resort in the evening for a cozy overnight stay.
Following breakfast, check out from your Munnar resort and enjoy a breathtakingly scenic 3 to 4-hour drive through the mountains to Thekkady. Check into your hotel upon arrival and relax. In the late afternoon, you can explore the local Kumily spice markets to shop for fresh cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon. In the evening, you have the option to attend a traditional Kathakali dance performance or a thrilling Kalaripayattu martial arts show (optional). Overnight stay in Thekkady.
Wake up early for an exciting day of nature and wildlife. Head to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary for a serene morning boat safari on Periyar Lake, where you can often spot herds of wild elephants, deer, and exotic birds along the water’s edge. Afterward, enjoy a guided tour through a dense spice plantation to learn how Kerala’s world-famous spices are grown and harvested. You may also opt for an elephant ride or nature walk (payable directly). Return to your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, check out of your Thekkady hotel and take a beautiful drive down to the tranquil backwaters of Alleppey. Upon arrival around noon, step aboard your traditional, private houseboat. As the boat gently glides through the intricate network of palm-fringed canals, lakes, and lagoons, you will be treated to authentic Kerala meals prepared freshly by the onboard chef. Spend the afternoon watching the rustic village life float by, witness a stunning backwater sunset, and enjoy a romantic dinner before sleeping on the water.
Wake up to the peaceful sounds of the backwaters and enjoy a traditional Kerala breakfast on your houseboat. After a brief morning cruise, check out at 9:00 AM and meet your driver. Depending on your departure schedule, you may have time for a quick heritage tour of Fort Kochi to see the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets and St. Francis Church. Afterward, you will be transferred directly to the Cochin Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey, carrying beautiful memories of God’s Own Country.
Because this itinerary covers different elevations, packing layers is key. Bring comfortable, breathable cotton clothing for the warm and humid climate in Cochin and the Alleppey backwaters. For the hill station of Munnar, temperatures can drop significantly in the early mornings and evenings, so a light jacket, sweater, or shawl is highly recommended. You should also pack comfortable walking shoes or sneakers for the wildlife safari and spice plantation tours in Thekkady.
In standard Deluxe Houseboats, the air conditioning in the bedrooms is typically turned on only during sleeping hours (from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM) while the boat is anchored. If you prefer a Premium or Luxury Houseboat with full-time day-and-night AC, please let us know during booking so we can upgrade your package.
While the morning boat safari on Periyar Lake is included in your itinerary, wildlife sightings (such as wild elephants or deer) are subject to chance as the animals roam freely in their natural habitat. The serene boat ride itself, however, offers stunning views of the dense forest surrounding the lake.
The most popular time to visit Kerala is during the winter season (September to March) when the weather is cool, dry, and perfect for sightseeing across Munnar, Thekkady, and Alleppey. The monsoon season (June to August) is also a beautiful time for nature lovers who want to experience the lush, vibrant greenery and rejuvenating Ayurvedic wellness retreats, though outdoor activities like boating may occasionally be impacted by heavy rain.
